New Delhi: A delegation from Japan comprising members of the country’s House of Representatives visited IIT Delhi and met Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, and other senior officials. The delegation was led by Mr. SAITO Hiroaki, Member, House of Representatives Chair, Standing Committee on Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology.

Both sides discussed existing research and academic collaboration between IIT Delhi and Japanese institutions and explored possible opportunities for future collaborations.

The Japanese delegation, which visited IIT Delhi on 1^st September 2026, also included Dr. MORIYAMA Masahito, Member, House of Representatives Director, Standing Committee on Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; Ms. INOUE (née UKISHIMA) Tomoko, Member, House of Representatives Director, Standing Committee on Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; Mr. AOYAMA Shuhei, Member, House of 

Representatives Director, Standing Committee on Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; and other senior Japanese officials.

Along with IIT Delhi Director Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Dy. Director (Operations) Prof. Arvind Nema, and Dean of International Relations Prof. Anil Verma also interacted with the delegation. Prof. Verma presented an overview of IIT Delhi to the Japanese delegation.

The Japanese delegation also visited the Robotics Lab led by Prof. Rohan Paul, Yardi School of AI, IIT Delhi, and the Mitsui Kinzoku Lab led by Dr. Sato from Japan established at the Research and Innovation Park of the Institute.

While speaking on this occasion, Mr. SAITO Hiroaki, Member, House of Representatives Chair, Standing Committee on Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology, said, “We are glad to be here at the top educational and research institute of India. We have already been collaborating with universities in India and establishing India-Japan relationship. Glad to see faces from Japan who are researching here at IIT Delhi. We are expecting to enhance the India-Japan relationship in science and technology through IIT Delhi.”   

Prof. Anil Verma, Dean, International Relations, IIT Delhi, said, “The Institute has a strong and longstanding engagement with academic and industrial institutions in Japan, with 11 active MoUs with Japanese academic and industry-sponsored Centres of Excellence established at IIT Delhi. The Institute also works closely with leading Japanese companies, including Hitachi Energy, Honda, Sony, HORIBA, Yamaha, and others, to create joint platforms for innovation, research, and co-creation.”
