नई दिल्ली: आई.आई.टी. दिल्ली में वार्षिक राष्ट्रीय स्तर की मेंटरिंग कार्यशाला का तीसरा संस्करण “STEMM (TLS)  में परिवर्तनकारी नेतृत्व कार्यशाला” का आयोजन 28 से 30 जनवरी, 2026 के दौरान किया गया। टी.एल.एस. (TLS) कार्यशाला का उद्देश्य अनुसूचित जाति/अनुसूचित जनजाति समुदाय के उन्नत स्तर के पीएच.डी. शोधार्थियों को आई.आई.टी., एन.आई.टी. तथा अन्य उच्च शिक्षा संस्थानों में संकाय पदों के लिए आवेदन करने की दिशा में प्रोत्साहित करना एवं सशक्त बनाना है।

इस वर्ष की कार्यशाला रासायनिक इंजीनियरी, वस्त्र एवं रेशा इंजीनियरी, वायुमंडलीय विज्ञान, पदार्थ विज्ञान एवं इंजीनियरी के विषयों पर केंद्रित थी।

आई.आई.टी. दिल्ली में इनिशिएटिव फ़ॉर कास्ट इक्विटी (ICE), विविधता एवं समावेशन कार्यालय तथा अ.जा./ अ.ज.जा. प्रकोष्ठ द्वारा संयुक्त रूप से आयोजित इस कार्यशाला के लिए देशभर से 150 से अधिक उम्मीदवारों ने आवेदन किया।

प्रो. धन्या सी. टी. (संकायाध्यक्ष, शैक्षणिक, आई.आई.टी. दिल्ली) की अध्यक्षता में गठित वैज्ञानिक सलाहकार समिति, जिसमें विभिन्न विभागाध्यक्ष एवं विशेषज्ञ संकाय सदस्य शामिल थे, ने सतत मार्गदर्शन (निरंतर मेंटरिंग) के लिए पूर्व शैक्षणिक सत्रों के दस चयनित प्रतिभागियों सहित देशभर के विभिन्न संस्थानों से 50 विद्यार्थियों के एक समूह का चयन किया।

कार्यशाला में प्रतिभागियों की शैक्षणिक और व्यावसायिक क्षमताओं को सुदृढ़ करने के लिए तैयार किए गए विभिन्न कौशल-निर्माण सत्रों को शामिल किया गया।

प्रतिभागियों ने विभागों के संकाय सदस्यों के समक्ष शोध प्रस्तुतियाँ दीं तथा शिक्षण प्रदर्शन किए। संकाय सदस्यों ने इन इन प्रस्तुतियों का मूल्यांकन किया और सुधार के लिए फीडबैक प्रदान किया।

आत्म-विश्वास की बाधाओं को दूर करने से संबंधित सत्र में इस बात पर प्रकाश डाला गया कि डॉ. बी. आर. अम्बेडकर के लेखन और नेतृत्व के साथ निरंतर जुड़ाव किस प्रकार आत्म-संदेह को दूर करने और विश्वास पैदा करने में मदद कर सकता है।

शोध स्टेटमेंट एवं शिक्षण स्टेटमेंट विकसित करने से संबंधित सत्रों में एक स्वतंत्र, प्रभावशाली तथा विभाग-संगत अनुसंधान अनुसंधान योजना को स्पष्ट रूप से व्यक्त करने के साथ-साथ सुस्पष्ट शिक्षण दर्शन (teaching philosophy) की आवश्यकता पर ज़ोर दिया गया। प्रतिभागियों ने शैक्षणिक एवं संस्थागत संदर्भों में लिखित अंग्रेज़ी संप्रेषण के बारीक पहलुओं पर आधारित एक व्यावहारिक (हैंड्स-ऑन) गतिविधि में भी हिस्सा लिया।

प्रतिभागियों ने संकाय-मार्गदर्शित, समूह आधारित अनुसंधान प्रस्ताव अभ्यास में भाग लिया, जिसने अंतरविषयक सोच को बढ़ावा दिया, सहकर्मी-से-सहकर्मी सीखने को मजबूत किया और मजबूत समाधानों एवं अनुप्रयोगों की अवधारणा को प्रोत्साहित किया।

एक अन्य सत्र संकाय साक्षात्कार की तैयारी के लिए प्रभावी रणनीतियों पर केंद्रित था। प्रो. सिद्धार्थ पांडे (संकायाध्यक्ष, संकाय, आई.आई.टी. दिल्ली) ने आई.आई.टी. दिल्ली में संकाय भर्ती प्रक्रिया पर एक सत्र संचालित किया और विशेष भर्ती अभियानों से संबंधित प्रश्नों का उत्तर भी दिया।

प्रो. समशेर, जो आई.आई.टी. दिल्ली के पूर्व विद्यार्थी हैं तथा वर्तमान में हरकोर्ट बटलर टेक्निकल विश्वविद्यालय, कानपुर के कुलपति हैं और प्रो. बिनोद कुमार कनाौजिया, निदेशक, डॉ. बी. आर. अम्बेडकर राष्ट्रीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान, जालंधर, ने प्रतिभागियों के साथ अपनी प्रेरणादायक यात्रा साझा की।

समापन समारोह को संबोधित करते हुए, प्रो. रंगन बनर्जी, निदेशक, आई.आई.टी. दिल्ली, ने कहा, “तीसरे संस्करण में टी.एल.एस. कार्यशाला की प्रगति देखकर मुझे प्रसन्नता हो रही है। हमने टी.एल.एस. कार्यशाला मेंटरिंग पहल की शुरुआत सामाजिक रूप से समावेशी शैक्षणिक नेतृत्व तैयार करने के लिए की थी, जो अकादमिक जगत और समाज में सकारात्मक बदलाव लाएगा। हमें उम्मीद है कि आने वाले वर्षों में आप में से कई लोग संकाय पदों पर कार्यरत होंगे।”

टी.एल.एस. मेंटरिंग पहल के विकास पर विचार व्यक्त करते हुए, प्रो. यशपाल जोगदंड, जो पिछले तीन वर्षों से टी.एल.एस. कार्यशाला के संयोजक हैं, ने कहा, “अधिकांश प्रतिभागियों ने आत्मविश्वास में उल्लेखनीय वृद्धि, शीर्ष रैंक वाले पत्रिकाओं में प्रकाशन और नए पेटेंट फ़ाइल करने की सूचना दी है, तथा कई ने प्रमुख संस्थानों में पोस्टडॉक्टरल पद भी हासिल किए हैं। हमें विश्वास  हैं कि ये सतत मार्गदर्शन प्रयास STEM क्षेत्रों में सामाजिक विविधता की खाई को पाटने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाएंगे।”

प्रो. मनोजकुमार रामटेके (अध्यक्ष, अ.जा./ अ.ज.जा. प्रकोष्ठ और सह-संयोजक-टी.एल.एस. कार्यशाला) और प्रो. प्रवीण इंगोले (सह-संयोजक-टी.एल.एस. कार्यशाला) ने कार्यशाला को सफल बनाने के लिए संस्थान के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों, वैज्ञानिक सलाहकार समिति, संकाय सदस्यों, स्टाफ सदस्यों और विद्यार्थी स्वयंसेवकों द्वारा प्रदान किए गए प्रोत्साहन और समर्थन के प्रति आभार व्यक्त किया।

New Delhi: The third edition of an annual national-level mentoring workshop, “Transformative Leadership in STEMM (TLS) Workshop,” was held from January 28 to 30, 2026, at IIT Delhi. The aim of the TLS Workshop is to encourage and empower advanced-stage Ph.D. scholars from the SC/ST community to apply for faculty positions at IITs, NITs, and other higher education institutions (HEIs).

This year’s workshop focused on the disciplines of Chemical Engineering, Textile & Fibre Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Materials Science & Engineering.

More than 150 candidates from all over India applied for the workshop, jointly organized by the Initiative for Caste Equity (ICE), the Office of Diversity & Inclusion, and the SC/ST Cell at IIT Delhi.

A scientific advisory committee chaired by Prof. Dhanya C. T. (Dean, Academics, IIT Delhi) and consisting of HoDs and expert faculty selected a cohort of 50 students from various institutions across the country, including ten select candidates from the previous batches for continuous mentoring.

The workshop featured various skill-building sessions designed to strengthen participants’ academic and professional capacities.

Participants made research presentations and delivered teaching demonstrations to the faculty body of the departments, which evaluated their performance and provided feedback for improvement.  

A session on overcoming confidence barriers highlighted how sustained engagement with the writings and leadership of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar can help address self-doubt and cultivate confidence.

Sessions on developing a research statement and teaching statement emphasised the importance of articulating an independent, impactful, and department-relevant research agenda, along with a clearly defined teaching philosophy. Participants also engaged in a hands-on activity on the nuanced aspects of written English communication in academic and institutional contexts.

Participants took part in a faculty-mentored, group-based research proposal exercise that fostered interdisciplinary thinking, strengthened peer-to-peer learning, and encouraged the conceptualisation of robust solutions and applications.

Another session focused on effective strategies for preparing for faculty interviews. Prof. Siddarth Pandey (Dean, Faculty, IIT Delhi) led a session on the faculty recruitment process at IIT Delhi and addressed queries also regarding special recruitment drives.

Prof. Samsher, an IIT Delhi alumnus and currently Vice-Chancellor of the Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur, and Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, Director, Dr. B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, shared their inspiring journey with participants.

While addressing the valedictory function, Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi, said, “I am happy to see the progress of the TLS workshop in the third edition. We initiated the TLS workshop mentoring initiative to build socially inclusive academic leadership that will bring a positive change in academia and society. We hope to see many of you taking faculty positions in coming years.”

Reflecting on the evolution of the TLS mentoring initiative, Prof. Yashpal Jogdand, Convener of the TLS Workshop for the last three years, observed, “Most TLS participants have reported significant gains in self-confidence, publications in top-ranked journals, and the filing of new patents, with several securing postdoctoral positions at leading institutions. We are confident that these sustained mentoring efforts will play a critical role in bridging the social diversity gap in STEM fields.”

Prof. Manojkumar Ramteke (Chairperson, SC/ST Cell, and TLS workshop co-convener) and Prof. Pravin Ingole (TLS workshop co-convener) expressed gratitude for the encouragement and support provided by the senior functionaries, scientific advisory committee, faculty, staff, and student volunteers of the institute that made the workshop successful.
