Orientation-cum-Welcome Programmes Organised for 1st Semester UG and PG Students

IIT Delhi organised welcome-cum-orientation programmes for the first-semester undergraduate and postgraduate students on July 21, 2026, and July 18, 2026, respectively. Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, welcomed the students and addressed them.

Along with the Director, students were also addressed by Prof. Dhanya C.T., Dean, Academics; Prof. B.K. Panigrahi, Dean, Student Affairs; Prof. Deepak Kumar, Dean, Diversity & Inclusion; Prof. Sudip Pattanayek, Chairperson, Joint Entrance Examination, IIT Delhi; Prof. Sreedevi Upadhyayula, Associate Dean (Student Welfare); counsellors; faculty members and other senior officials.

The Institute organised a five-day induction programme from July 21-25, 2026, to help its new students settle down.

During the orientation, the class of 2026-27 attended sessions on career services, library facilities, MakerSpace, sports, outreach, student clubs etc. They were given a glimpse of the campus and information about the language proficiency and computer literacy tests.

For the PG and PhD students, the academic departments organised meetings with the respective programme coordinators during which they were informed of the core courses that they have to register for, the available elective courses and the corresponding time-table.

The IIT Delhi Security Unit organised an awareness session on cyber safety and substance use for new students with the support of the Delhi Police. The Delhi Police officials, including Sh. Amit Goyal, IPS (DCP, South-West District); Sh. Ajay Kumar Yadav, SHO, PS Kishan Garh; and Sh. Pravesh Kaushik, outlined the different strategies scammers employ, and the preventive measures students can take to protect themselves from becoming victims of cyber fraud.
