IIT Delhi, HORIBA India Sign MoU to Support Students with Disabilities

New Delhi: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between IIT Delhi and HORIBA India, a subsidiary of the leading Japanese analytical group HORIBA Ltd., Kyoto to support students with disabilities.

Signed under the aegis of the Office of Corporate Relations at IIT Delhi, the MoU will support the  PwD students through the Office of Accessible Education (OAE) at IIT Delhi. The OAE is working on providing an inclusive environment for students with disabilities at the institute and takes care of extending special assistance ranging from academics to infrastructure requirements to the students.

Under this Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) support by HORIBA India, assistive devices, including hearing aids, braille embosser printers, keyboard trays and braille signage, shall be provided to the students with disabilities with an aim to create a congenial environment for them to make their academic journey easy.

Prof. Vikram Singh, faculty in-charge of students with disabilities, IIT Delhi, said, “Ensuring full accessibility for all - to our buildings and facilities, workspaces, information and communications, conferences and events - with specific measures, equipment and services to achieve it is what this team is working on and CSR support like this would help us discover our full potential”.

Dr. Rajeev Gautam, Corporate Officer, HORIBA, Ltd., Japan and President, HORIBA India Pvt. Ltd., India, said, “HORIBA India looks forward to many more such collaborations with IIT Delhi to support the noble CSR cause and joint research activities”.

Prof. Angelie Multani, Dean, Diversity and Inclusion, IIT Delhi, said, “With an aim to support students with disabilities, IIT Delhi had launched the Office of Accessible Education, which made a modest start over the past few years in providing support to such students; however, they would invite more corporates to partner with them and extend support in this initiative”.

Ms. Suparna Banerjee Bhattacharyya, Chief Financial Officer and Head – Shared Operations, HORIBA India informed that the CSR policy of HORIBA is ‘Together We Shall Grow’. India can become a much stronger nation when each youth in society gets the best, accessible education.
