New Delhi: On August 8, 2026, the hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the 57th convocation ceremony of IIT Delhi as the chief guest. The Prime Minister addressed 3036 graduating students who have been awarded their degrees today.

The hon’ble Union Minister of Education, Shri Pralhad Joshi, and NITI Aayog member Prof. Abhay Karandikar graced the occasion as the guests of honor. Shri Harish Salve, Chairperson, Board of Governors, IIT Delhi, presided over the convocation ceremony.
Shri Narendra Modi presented the Institute's most prestigious honours, including the President's Gold Medal, Director's Gold Medal, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma (Former President of India) Gold Medal and Perfect Ten Gold Medals to the meritorious students.

He remotely inaugurated Param Pragya, an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility established at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus.

PARAM Pragya is the latest supercomputing facility in the Indian Academia of its scale. It is powered by 400 NVIDIA A100 80GB GPUs, providing a significant computing advantage for various AI workloads. In terms of AI compute, this translates to 250 AI petaflops of compute.

In addition to a large compute capacity, the facility has 10 petabytes of Parallel File System Storage, enabling rapid data access and processing at scale. The modern Data Center where the HPC is commissioned, is powered by approx. 800 kilowatts of energy, ensuring stability and efficiency for round-the-clock AI processing. This advanced infrastructure is poised to serve AI-driven innovation across at IIT Delhi, and nationally.

Highlighting the profound emotional resonance of the ceremony, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi reflected on the vibrant, dream-filled atmosphere of the campus. He recalled his previous virtual attendance during the COVID pandemic, expressing his deep personal satisfaction at being physically present among the graduating class. "Sharing this incredible experience with you on this campus today is very special for me too," observed Shri Modi.

Congratulating the students and their families on their monumental academic achievements, the Prime Minister emphasized that their degrees represent much more than academic success, serving as a mandate to contribute to the nation. He extended special praise to the medal recipients and celebrated the launch of new AI initiatives at the institute. "You are stepping out from here with a dream of doing a lot for the country," affirmed Shri Modi.

Encouraging the students to deeply cherish their current moments, the Prime Minister humorously referenced beloved campus memories, including inter-hostel rivalries across Kumaon, Ara, Kara, Vindhy, Nilgiri, Kailash, and Himadri, alongside local culinary favorites like Jia Sarai’s Poha and Satpura mess Parathas. "In the coming times when you will have massive responsibilities, the memories of this place will definitely energize you," remarked Shri Modi.

Redefining the true value of an IIT degree, the Prime Minister emphasized that the qualification goes far beyond a high CGPA or a lucrative placement offer, acting instead as a definitive global certification of advanced problem-solving capabilities. "Your degree tells the entire world that you know exactly how to solve highly difficult problems," noted Shri Modi.
Detailing the government's aggressive push toward comprehensive self-reliance across economic, technological, and industrial sectors, the Prime Minister underscored that youth empowerment is the foundational bedrock of a Viksit Bharat. He celebrated the administration's strategic policy decisions to democratize and open traditionally restricted sectors to young innovators. "The more empowered the youth of the country are, the more empowered the entire country will be," noted Shri Modi.

Addressing the graduating students, Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi, said, “You have grown in confidence, equipped with one of the best education available in the country comparable with the best in the world. As you go out into the world let me offer you a few words of advice. Remember what you have learnt but remember to continue learning throughout your life. Always choose the ethical, right path. Focus on larger societal goals- your individual goals will automatically be met. Strike a balance in your lives. Make time for the passions that you enjoy and the people you love. We hope that you will fulfil the vision of the Institute and help us become the pride of all Indians.”

The first batch of students of Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), Executive MBA, M.Sc. in Biological Sciences, and MA in Culture, Society, Thought, who graduated in 2026, also received their degrees today.

Nineteen-year-old Anish Tanwar, B.Tech. in Civil Engineering, is the youngest graduate, and 74-year-old Ph.D. student Chandra Shekhar Prasad is the oldest graduate who received their degrees at the 57th convocation. Among the 587 Ph.D. graduates, 245 are women.

Alumni Awards
At the 57th convocation, the Institute also honored its esteemed alumni with the prestigious Alumni Awards 2026. Shri Harish Salve, Chairperson, Board of Governors, IIT Delhi, presented the awards. The Distinguished Alumni Awards (DAA) were presented to IIT Delhi alumni Prof. Rajasekhar Balasubramanian, National University of Singapore (Academics and Research category); Mr. Shrikant Prabhakar Joshi, CEO of L&T Realty (Industry and Corporate Leadership category); Dr. Ravi S Prasher, Chief Technology Officer of Bloom Energy (Industry and Corporate Leadership category); Mr. Amit Lodha IPS, ADGP, State Crime Records Bureau, Bihar (Public Service category); and Dr. Vivek Raghavan, Co-Founder Sarvam AI (Entrepreneurship category).

Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) Awards were presented to Mr. Anand Agrawal, Co-Founder & CPTO, Credgenics; and Mr. Abhay Mitra, Co-founder & CTO, Nirvana Insurance.
