New Delhi: The hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will address the 57th convocation ceremony of IIT Delhi as the chief guest on August 8, 2026. The Prime Minister will address more than 3000 graduating students, including undergraduate and postgraduate students and 587 Ph.D. scholars who will be awarded their degrees during the convocation ceremony.

Hon’ble Union Minister of Education, Shri Pralhad Joshi, and NITI Aayog member Prof. Abhay Karandikar will also grace the occasion as the guests of honor.

Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi, while addressing a press conference on August 7, 2026, said that Shri Narendra Modi will present the Institute's most prestigious honours, including the President's Gold Medal, Director's Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, and Perfect Ten Gold Medals to the meritorious students.

The Director of IIT Delhi said that the Prime Minister will remotely inaugurate Param Pragya, an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility established at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus.

The first batch of students of Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), Executive MBA, M.Sc. in Biological Sciences, and MA in Culture, Society, Thought, who graduated in 2026, are among the degree recipients at the 57th convocation.

Along with Director Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Deputy Directors, Deans, the Registrar and other senior officials addressed the media and highlighted IIT Delhi’s achievements, collaboration with national and international academic institutions and industry, and research and innovations being done at the Institute.

IIT Delhi and NITs Join Hands
IIT Delhi has launched a landmark national academic and research collaboration network through the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with 18 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) across the country.

Through this collaboration, students and faculty members of participating institutions will benefit from expanded opportunities for academic exchange, joint research, shared access to research infrastructure, collaborative supervision of projects and theses, faculty development initiatives, and participation in multidisciplinary innovation activities.

To support the collaborative activities under the MoUs, IIT Delhi has launched ALIGN (Academic Linkages for Innovation and National Growth)—a dedicated institutional initiative designed to catalyse academic and research engagement between IIT Delhi and partner institutions.

Placement Mentorship Programme
A placement mentorship programme was launched, connecting placed students with current final-year students for personalised mentorship. It offered one-on-one guidance covering resume building, mock interviews, company-specific preparation, and overall placement strategy for the students.

The Institute introduced the 'Call for a Friend' programme as a peer support initiative to help students cope with stress and anxiety during placements, recruiting trained student volunteers skilled in empathetic listening and basic mental wellness support.

International Connect
Compared with the 2024–25 academic year, IIT Delhi recorded significant growth in internationalisation during the 2025–26 academic year. The full-time academic programme intake of international students increased from 43 to 62, while inbound mobility (>3 months) rose from 8 to 23 students. Outbound mobility (>3 months) remained strong, with 43 students in 2024–25 and 41 in 2025–26.

A total of 88 active International MoUs from 30 countries are paving ways to research and academic collaboration with international universities.

IIT Delhi has taken lead along with the international partners, and started 3 International programmes in 2026:

• Post Graduate Diploma in "Solar Systems and Management" with International Solar Alliance (ISA) and INES - Institut National de l'Energie Solaire, France, is for training international participants from across 120+ ISA countries as trainers in Solar Technology and Application Resource Centres (STAR-C) in ISA member countries.

Faculty Expansion
IIT Delhi is actively working towards strengthening its teaching and research ecosystem, improving the faculty-student ratio, and maintaining a focus on multi-disciplinarity and excellence.

In the last year, the Institute hired 37 faculty members across various disciplines. Currently, the Institute has 16 foreign faculty members. Provisions, such as half-time contract appointments, are currently underway to attract even more global talent to the institute.

To ensure the inclusivity of reserved category candidates, multiple proactive steps have been taken, including organising special recruitment drives.

Research & Innovation
In the FY 2025–2026 alone, IIT Delhi undertook sponsored R&D and consultancy projects worth about ₹600 crore. A significant share of the ongoing projects aligns with the national missions and is supported by government agencies. Contributions from industry and international partners reflect a growing collaborative network that advances both national priorities and global research efforts.

IIT Delhi has a large and diverse research base supported by government, industry, and international funding bodies. Over the last 10 years, the Institute executed sponsored research and development (R&D) and consultancy projects worth about ₹4000 cr (approximately ₹400 cr per year).

Intellectual Property and Commercialisation
Research at IIT Delhi spans fundamental discovery, technology development, and application-oriented innovation across disciplines. The Institute’s current IP portfolio comprises 1,871 assets, including 1,756 patents and 115 other forms of IP. In addition to IP creation, the Institute has executed more than 225 licensing agreements across sectors, such as MedTech, healthcare, assistive technologies, software, textiles, communication, and energy.

In the last one year, 196 patents were filed, 26 licensing deals closed and 26 news startups were incubated at FITT.

Corporate Connect
Recognising the growing need for sustained industry–academia engagement, IIT Delhi has launched an Industry Membership Programme as a structured platform for long-term collaboration. The programme enables companies to engage with the Institute's distinguished faculty, state-of-the-art research facilities, innovation ecosystem, and talented student community. IIT Delhi also invites corporate partners to collaborate through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to support transformative projects that deliver measurable societal impact.

Industry partnerships have also led to the establishment of specialised facilities, such as:
• Horiba Technical Centre
• Emerging Technology and Innovation Lab by Yamaha Motor Solutions India Pvt. Ltd.
• Equipment support for the Foundation for Smart Manufacturing Lab by ICICI Foundation
• Cisco and IITD joint Technology Hub to support AI and cybersecurity research, workforce development, industry collaboration and government engagement in India

Alumni Awards
IIT Delhi has announced the recipients of the prestigious Alumni Awards 2026. The Distinguished Alumni Awards will be presented to IIT Delhi alumni Prof. Rajasekhar Balasubramanian, National University of Singapore (Academics and Research category); Mr. Shrikant Prabhakar Joshi, CEO of L&T Realty (Industry and Corporate Leadership category); Dr. Ravi S Prasher, Chief Technology Officer of Bloom Energy (Industry and Corporate Leadership category); Mr. Amit Lodha IPS, ADGP, State Crime Records Bureau, Bihar (Public Service category); and Dr. Vivek Raghavan, Co-Founder Sarvam AI (Entrepreneurship category).
Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) awards will be presented to Mr. Anand Agrawal, Co-Founder & CPTO, Credgenics; and Mr. Abhay Mitra, Co-founder & CTO, Nirvana Insurance.

IIT Delhi Sonipat
The campus is fast becoming a hub for advanced research, technological innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The Central Research Facility (CRF) and SATHI form the Sonipat campus's largest operational unit. Over the past year, these facilities served more than 4,000 national researchers, boosting nationwide research capabilities and generating institutional revenue.

During the current year, the campus achieved a significant milestone, i.e. completion of a 9,500 square metre advanced research and academic building that includes laboratories for the Centre for Optics and Photonics and CRF instrumentation, with more facilities planned for next year.

At IIT Delhi Sonipat campus, two Centres of Excellence (CoE) i.e., CoE SANJEEVANI, CoE on Handloom Technology and the National Facility for Extreme Temperature and Extreme Environment Materials Testing are being set up.

Additionally, new academic programs, research clusters, and supporting infrastructure such as reading rooms and recreational spaces are being planned for the expanding campus community.

IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi
The 2025–26 academic year marked significant growth for IIT Delhi – Abu Dhabi, the institute's international campus. The campus expanded its academic offerings by launching an accredited BTech in Chemical Engineering and a PhD in Energy & Sustainability, seeing healthy growth in its student body across diverse nationalities. Highlighting its educational quality, the inaugural MTech graduating batch achieved an outstanding placement rate, with the vast majority securing positions within the UAE.

Research and strategic industry integration expanded rapidly through major events like the Ignite startup workshop and the AIMS2025 conference on AI and sustainable materials and processes. The campus established numerous collaborative research projects with key regional institutions, including Khalifa University and MBZUAI, while scaling up specialized laboratory spaces.

Beyond academics, student life flourished through cultural festivals like Afkar and Afsana, the SportOasis athletic tournament, and the UAE National Day celebrations. The campus deepened its engagement with the broader educational ecosystem of the UAE through its Al Ibtikar initiative and supported its continuous enrolment growth by opening modern dormitories, expanding office spaces, and upgrading digital infrastructure.
