Consultative Brainstorming Meeting: ‘DST's Roadmap Towards India’s Net Zero Targets Through Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage’

New Delhi: A consultative brainstorming meeting was funded and organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and coordinated and hosted by Chemical Engineering Department at IIT Delhi, and NCoE-CCU, IIT Bombay. The theme of the meeting was “DST's roadmap towards India’s Net zero targets through Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS)”.

Secretary, DST, Dr. Abhay Karandikar, and Director, IIT Delhi, Prof. Rangan Banerjee addressed the august gathering from academia, industry, funding organizations, and policymakers.

Panelists representing academia, industries, funding organizations, and policymakers further elaborated on 4 thematic aspects of the meeting:

  • Advancing CCUS Technology & Innovation Value Chain
  • Integration & Adoption of CCUS in Industries
  • CCUS Funding Opportunities & Mechanisms
  • Emerging Directions: Way Forward -> Strategies, Partnerships & Deployment

Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi, stressed the need for awareness and capacity building through customized courses and large-scale training programs on CCUS technologies. He emphasized the need for constant and consistent funding and investment mechanisms congruent to the challenge of climate change. The translation and deployment of existing and future CCUS technologies will require coordinated efforts from academia, industry, funding organizations, and policymakers.

He highlighted initiatives by IIT Delhi for taking the lead in demonstrating the CCUS technologies on a pilot scale with industrial partners and the new efforts to roll out the Master’s Program in Energy Transition and Sustainability at IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi.
