Anchal Sharma, a PhD scholar in the Department of Design at IIT Delhi and Fulbright scholar at MIT, joined Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and First Lady of the United States Ms. Jill Biden on stage and made a presentation on her research during their visit to the National Science Foundation (NSF) on June 21. PM Modi is on a state visit to the US from June 21–24, 2023.
While sharing her feelings, Anchal Sharma said, "It was highly inspiring to share the stage with the Honourable Prime Minister of India, and the First Lady of the US along with other dignitaries at the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C. and to hear their thoughts about the various opportunities available and their passion for education. I am really looking forward to how I can combine all this inspiration to achieve something worthwhile".

She added, "I feel honoured to have had a chance to share my own story from IIT Delhi to MIT US as a Fulbright scholar and how this experience enhanced my research on tactile shape perception by the visually challenged. It also grew me as a researcher and innovator! I would deeply want to thank my mentors, peers at IIT Delhi and MIT, and most importantly, my PhD supervisors, Prof. PVM Rao and Prof. Srinivasan Venkataraman, for having scientifically inspired me to undertake this research at first, and my Fulbright advisor, Prof. Pawan Sinha, for his intellectual influence and belief in me to develop myself further. Finally, I'm grateful to the Indian Embassy for believing in me to undertake this opportunity and being a small part of the larger narrative of this intellectual exchange between two great nations".
