New Delhi: IIT Delhi and IndiGo, part of InterGlobe Aviation Limited, have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to drive innovation and create impactful solutions for the airline industry.

This partnership will focus on leveraging advanced research to enhance customer experiences and optimise operational efficiency. The collaboration aims to provide IndiGo’s passengers with personalised recommendations for flight deals and ancillary services such as travel insurance, meal packages, and hotel bookings, based on their travel history, demographic profiles, or geo-IP addresses.

Simultaneously, the IIT Delhi team will work with IndiGo to develop advanced disruption management strategies to handle unexpected changes in flight and crew schedules. By integrating data from various modules—such as fleet recovery, crew recovery, and revenue estimation—the goal is to minimise the impact on passengers and crew while maximizing operational efficiency and revenue.

Speaking on the collaboration, Prof. Preeti Ranjan Panda, Dean of Corporate Relations, IIT Delhi, said, “At IIT Delhi, we are committed to advancing research that addresses real-world challenges and benefits society and industry. Our partnership with IndiGo aligns perfectly with this vision, bringing together academia and industry to foster sustainable and innovative solutions. IndiGo has already established itself as a market leader in the airline industry, and this collaboration will explore new technologies to improve operational efficiency in the industry.”

Mr. Neetan Chopra, Chief Digital and Information Officer at IndiGo, said, “IndiGo is committed to embracing digital advancements that enable a new era of hassle-free travel. And this collaboration with IIT Delhi is a crucial step in IndiGo's digital transformation strategy. By leveraging the expertise of IIT Delhi's faculty, we aim to develop innovative industry-first solutions. We believe this partnership, will not only benefit IndiGo but also make a significant contribution to advancing the Indian aviation industry.

The sponsored projects under this collaboration will be led by Prof. Varun Ramamohan from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Delhi.
