New Delhi: The Honorable Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, today (February 11, 2026) laid the foundation stones for Academic Block-103 and Girls Hostel-50B at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi).

Academic Block-103, with a built-up area of approximately 5 lakh sq. ft., will be IIT Delhi’s first 10-storey academic building, rising to a height of 36.75 meters with two basement levels.

The facility will comprise 31 classrooms and lecture theatres, 150 research laboratories, 150 faculty offices, and conference rooms. The building will also house the Educational Technology Services Centre along with provisions for a cafeteria, banking facilities, and other essential amenities.

The New Girls Hostel-50B, with a built-up area of approximately 3.9 lakh sq. ft., is designed in a B+G+12 configuration and will provide accommodation for 1400 students.

The hostel will feature double-occupancy rooms with built-in cupboards, study tables, universal charging points, and a dining hall.

These projects are targeting a 4-star GRIHA certification and incorporate sustainability features including rooftop solar panels, passive design strategies, rainwater harvesting systems, landscaped public spaces, and low-VOC materials.

The planning and execution of these projects are being undertaken with careful attention to the existing site ecology, ensuring that all trees on the site are preserved and thereby eliminating the need for tree felling permissions. These projects will be executed at a budget of Rs. 430 crores supported through various schemes of the Government of India.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Education, Prof. Rangan Banerjee (Director of IIT Delhi), faculty, staff, and students from IIT Delhi, attended the ceremony.

नई दिल्ली: श्री धर्मेंद्र प्रधान, माननीय केंद्रीय शिक्षा मंत्री ने आज (11 फरवरी, 2026) भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान दिल्ली (आई.आई.टी. दिल्ली) में शैक्षणिक खंड -103 तथा महिला छात्रावास-50बी की आधारशिला रखी।

लगभग 5 लाख वर्ग फुट निर्मित क्षेत्रफल वाला शैक्षणिक खंड -103 आई.आई.टी. दिल्ली का पहला 10 मंजिला शैक्षणिक भवन होगा, जिसमें दो भूतल होंगे तथा इसकी ऊंचाई  36.75 मीटर होगी।

इस खंड में 31 कक्षाएं एवं व्याख्यान कक्ष, 150 अनुसंधान प्रयोगशालाएँ, 150 संकाय कार्यालय तथा सम्मेलन कक्ष शामिल होंगे। इस भवन में शैक्षिक प्रौद्योगिकी सेवा केंद्र भी स्थापित किया जाएगा, जहाँ कैफ़ेटेरिया, बैंकिंग सुविधाएँ तथा अन्य आवश्यक सुविधाएं भी होंगी।

लगभग 3.9 लाख वर्ग फुट निर्माण क्षेत्रफल वाला नया महिला छात्रावास-50बी, बी+ग्राउंड+12 (B+G+12) संरचना में डिज़ाइन किया गया है और इसमें 1400 महिला विद्यार्थियों के लिए आवास की सुविधा होगी।

इस महिला छात्रावास में डबल-ऑक्यूपेंसी वाले कमरे होंगे जिनमें इनबिल्ट अलमारियाँ, अध्ययन टेबल, यूनिवर्सल चार्जिंग पॉइंट और भोजनालय की सुविधा होगी।

ये परियोजनाएँ 4-स्टार GRIHA प्रमाणन के लक्ष्य के साथ विकसित की जा रही हैं और इनमें पर्यावरणीय सततता सुनिश्चित करने हेतु छतों पर सौर पैनल, निष्क्रिय वास्तु-डिज़ाइन उपाय, वर्षा जल संचयन प्रणाली, सुसज्जित हरित सार्वजनिक स्थल और कम-वाष्पशील कार्बनिक यौगिक (Low-VOC) युक्त निर्माण सामग्री का समावेश किया गया है।

इन परियोजनाओं की योजना और कार्यान्वयन मौजूदा स्थल को ध्यान में रखते हुए सावधानीपूर्वक किया जा रहा है, ताकि परिसर के सभी पेड़ों का संरक्षण सुनिश्चित किया जा सके और पेड़ काटने की अनुमति की आवश्यकता ही न पड़े। इन परियोजनाओं को भारत सरकार की विभिन्न योजनाओं के सहयोग से 430 करोड़ रुपये के बजट में कार्यान्वित किया जाएगा।

समारोह में शिक्षा मंत्रालय के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों, प्रो. रंगन बनर्जी (आई.आई.टी. दिल्ली के निदेशक), संकाय सदस्यों, स्टाफ सदस्यों तथा आई.आई.टी. दिल्ली के विद्यार्थियों ने भाग लिया।
