QS World University Rankings 2026: IIT Delhi Features in List of Top 125 World Institutions; Emerges as No. 1 Educational Institute in India

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has been featured among the top 125 institutions in the world by the QS World University Rankings (QSWUR) 2026. IIT Delhi’s global ranking has seen a significant jump from the earlier 150th position to the current 123rd rank.

This is also the highest QS World University Ranking achieved so far by the Institute. Moreover, according to the QSWUR 2026, released on Thursday, IIT Delhi has emerged as India’s No. 1 educational institute.

Prof. Vivek Buwa, Head of the Rankings Cell and Dean of Planning at IIT Delhi, while speaking about IIT Delhi’s remarkable rise in the QSWUR 2026, said, “It’s a proud moment for IIT Delhi. I would like to congratulate present and past faculty members, students, 64,000+ alumni, the Ministry of Education (Govt. of India), and all the stakeholders who have contributed to this success. These rankings help to introspect and to identify areas that require further improvements. With the efforts of all the stakeholders, IIT Delhi has been continuously improving its rank on several parameters and has a strong potential to be in the top 100 world universities.”

As far as various indicators of the QS World University Rankings 2026 are concerned, IIT Delhi has secured position among the top 50 global institutions with respect to Employer Reputation (a QS ranking indicator designed to evaluate perceptions of global employers on which institutions are providing the most job-ready graduates).

The Institute is in the list of top 90 with respect to Citations per Faculty (this ratio measures the average number of citations obtained per faculty member and is an estimate of the impact and quality of the scientific research carried out by universities), top 150 with respect to Academic Reputation (it is designed to evaluate the perceptions of global academics on which institutions are demonstrating academic excellence), and among the top 175 with respect to sustainability.

With an overall No. 1 position in India, IIT Delhi has been ranked among the top two institutions in the country under multiple ranking indicators, such as academic reputation, employer reputation, and sustainability.

The QSWUR 2026 evaluated over 8,400 institutions globally.
