New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) recently launched its first tranche of undergraduate (UG) programs at its Abu Dhabi campus, marking a milestone in the Institute's journey towards leadership in global engineering education. With a commitment to fostering academic rigour, innovation, and global perspectives, these UG programs, viz., B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering and B.Tech. in Energy Engineering, are poised to transform the landscape of engineering education in the Middle East and beyond.
IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi was established following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Ministry of Education, India, IIT Delhi, and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) on July 15, 2023, in the presence of the top leadership of the two countries. Funding and logistic support for the Abu Dhabi campus comes from ADEK, fostering a unique partnership with IIT Delhi and its rich experience in academics and research.
Scheduled to commence in the academic year 2024-25, the two undergraduate programs will commence with a starting batch of 30 students each. Within each discipline, up to 10 seats can be taken by students who qualify in the JEE Advanced examination, while 20 seats will be allocated through the merit list of the Combined Admission Entrance Test (CAET), a new examination being launched by IIT Delhi that is specifically customised for the UAE.
The undergraduate program in Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Delhi's Abu Dhabi campus is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to thrive in the digital age. With a comprehensive curriculum encompassing theoretical foundations, computer architecture, systems, software design, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, students will be prepared to tackle the most pressing challenges and opportunities in technology and innovation.
The undergraduate program in Energy Engineering at IIT Delhi's Abu Dhabi campus is dedicated to addressing the pressing global challenges of energy production, consumption, and sustainability. Through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates engineering, environmental science, and policy, students will explore renewable energy sources, energy storage technologies, and sustainable energy systems, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.
The CAET test, conducted by the JEE Office in IIT Delhi, is planned for June 23, 2024, in multiple centres in the UAE. The test is meant for candidates who are residents of the UAE, including UAE nationals and expatriates, as well as international students. Details of the test are available at: (https://admissions.abudhabi.iitd.ac.in/application/caet-2024). The portal is open for registration till June 10, 2024.
Students who qualify JEE Advanced 2024 can use their rank to apply for admission to IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi through a separate portal that is navigable from the website after the declaration of the JEE Advanced results. The seat allocation for IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi will take place through this portal (and not through the JoSAA portal) for students coming through both routes, JEE Advanced and CAET.
All JEE Advanced-qualified candidates will need to pay only the fees that they would be required to pay (as per their category) at the Delhi campus of IIT Delhi. The rest of the fees will be waived. In addition, students will be entitled to a monthly stipend of AED 2000. All JEE Advanced-qualified students will be entitled to double occupancy hostel accommodation, for which the accommodation charges will be waived and food will be made available at subsidised rates. In addition, all JEE Advanced qualified students will be entitled to an annual allowance of AED 4000 to support their travel expenses. Medical insurance and other welfare issues will be adequately taken care of.
More details on applying for a seat based on JEE Advanced qualification will be made available on the IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi website soon. IIT Delhi plans to host an Open House for candidates qualified in JEE Advanced 2024 to disseminate more information about the Abu Dhabi campus.
The launch of undergraduate programs at IIT Delhi's Abu Dhabi campus represents a transformative moment in the Institute's journey of academic excellence and global engagement. Through innovation, collaboration, and a steadfast commitment to excellence, IIT Delhi is poised to redefine engineering education and create a positive impact on society.
