- Graduation 2024 exit survey showed only 5% of graduated students were still looking for appropriate career opportunities
New Delhi: The start of December coincides with the start of the placement season at all IITs; this year is no different. On the eve of this occasion, IIT Delhi looks forward to welcoming a large number of recruiters this year.
Speaking on this occasion, the professors in-charge of the Office of Career Services (OCS), IIT Delhi, Prof. R. Ayothiraman and Prof. Naresh Datla, said, “We have left no stone unturned to ensure that all our students who have signed up to avail our services in 2024-25 are able to find career opportunities commensurate with their abilities and expectations. We have a large number of profiles lined up to visit IIT Delhi in the weeks ahead, and we believe this would cater to all aspiring students. IIT Delhi appreciates the recruiters and extends them a warm welcome. Our students’ talent, potential, and drive are second to none, and are positive that at the end of the exercise the recruiters would concur. We wish our students all the best for the upcoming placement session.”
Through on-campus hiring activities during the session 2023-2024, 1222 unique job offers and 741 unique internship offers were received.
The excitement for the upcoming season is built on an exit survey done among the students who graduated in August 2024. The survey revealed that only 5% of graduated students were still looking for appropriate career opportunities. A large fraction of these students comprised PhD scholars looking for Post-Doctoral Research opportunities abroad.
It is noted that the students availing on-campus placement in 2023-2024 had increased by about 25% from 2022-23, which includes a 6-fold increase in the number of PhD scholars. The total number of graduates in 2023-24 is higher than the previous year by close to 10%, and the number of PhD graduates by 30%. This year, for the first time, IIT Delhi conducted a special placement drive for PhD scholars in June 2024, which helped to increase the number of offers by 7 times compared to the previous year. Notwithstanding the success of the initial attempt at PhD placement, a large majority of these graduates are placed through off-campus placement, which is to be expected as they are recruited to occupy niche roles.
