Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) proudly announces the starting of a new undergraduate program, BTech in Materials Engineering, by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE). The first batch of students will be joining in 2020 through the Joint Entrance Examination.

The development, selection and processing of materials are central to any engineering advancement. The UG programme in Materials Engineering is designed to equip the students with the necessary knowledge and skills to cater to all industrial sectors that require knowledge in material design and engineering to meet the growing industrial and academic demands of our country. The BTech course curriculum is designed to lay a core foundation with a wide basket of electives in Materials Engineering which would be ideally suited for those interested students in exploring opportunities in both basic sciences and engineering, or a combination of the two. The courses covered include the relationships between structure and properties in various classes of materials including metals, polymers, electronic materials, and biomaterials. Concepts learned in the programme can be used to quantify the essential properties of engineering materials, and guide the design of new materials for structural and functional applications. All students will also be working with a world class team of young and vibrant faculty addressing a contemporary research problem relevant to society at large. The programme is futuristic with a strong focus on both experimental and computational approaches to the discovery, characterization, selection, design and application of materials.
