IIT Delhi celebrates Foundation Day

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi celebrated its 63rd Foundation Day on 27th January 2021.

Dr. Renu Swarup, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India delivered the Foundation Day Lecture on “The Biotech Revolution: Are we ready for the future?".

Congratulating the IIT Delhi community on the Institute’s Foundation Day, Dr Swarup said that IIT Delhi holds a special place when it is about achievements in terms of the leadership and in terms of building a very strong education ecosystem.

Prof V. Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi while addressing the IIT Delhi community said that given the fact that out of 11,000 students on the campus 3,300 students are PhD students the Institute is becoming more and more a research oriented kind of university.

He added that the Institute has taken many steps to increase its international footprint.

On this occasion, the Institute also honored faculty members with the Faculty Research Awards.

1. Sulochana & Colonel A krishnaswami VrC VSM Lifetime Research Award- Prof. Anurag Sharma, Physics and Prof. Bodh Raj Mehta, Physics

2. Prof P.C.P. Bhatt Basic Research Award- Prof. Siddharth Pandey, Chemistry

3. Prof K.L. Chopra Applied Research Award- Prof. K. K. Pant, Chemical Engineering

4. Mrs Veena Arora Early Career Research Award - Prof. Amit Gupta, Mechanical Engineering; Prof. Hemant Kumar Kashyap, Chemistry; Prof. (Ms) Leena Nebhani, Materials Science and Engineering and Prof. Mohd. Ali Haider, Chemical Engineering.
