Description of Training:
This training will introduce attendees to the IITD Net-Zero Inda (NZI) project and Macro, which is one of the core models in use as part of NZI. It is a bottom-up, multi-sectoral infrastructure optimization model for macro-energy systems. Macro co-optimizes the design and operation of user-defined models of multi-sector energy systems and networks, and enables users to explore the impact of energy policies, technology costs and performance, demand patterns, and other factors on the energy system both as a whole and at the sector level. The Macro development team have built on their experience developing the GenX [1] and Dolphyn [2] models to design a new architecture which is easier and faster to expand to new energy technologies, policies, and sectors.

High level presentations in the morning will cover the model, examples of national, regional and sectoral models built using Macro, and examples of data sets prepared for entry into Macro. The morning will wrap up with a Q&A session. The afternoon will involve an informal in-person working session. At the working session, Macro trainers and existing users will be available to help potential users install and run Macro on their personal laptops, as well as answer relevant questions.

Who should attend:
Students, researchers and staff interested in maco-energy system models and modelling techniques. If you would like to learn more before registering to attend, please visit the MacroEnergy documentation page [3], the preprint description of Macro [4], and/or the Macro GitHub repository [5]. Attendees at the informal afternoon session should bring their laptops.

Presentation team:
Luca Bonaldo is from the ZERO Lab (Zero-carbon Energy systems Research and Optimization Laboratory) at Princeton University. The Zero Lab improves and applies optimization-based macro-energy systems models to evaluate low-carbon energy technologies, guide investment and research in innovative decarbonization solutions, and generate insights to improve energy and climate policy and planning. Zero-Lab's Principal Investigator is Professor Jesse Jenkins. Andrew Pascale and Ganesh Hegde are from the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment (ACEE) at Princeton University and, under direction from Senior Research Scientist Chris Greig of the ACEE, are part of the Net-Zero India project, a collaboration between IITD, Prayas (Energy Group) and Princeton University. At IITD, NZI is led by Assistant Professors Kaveri Iychettira and Rajarshi Dasgupta from the IITD School of Public Policy.
